Flyers Gameday: Hammer the Devils

Tonight, the halls of the Wachovia Center will relive the great exploits of Dave ‘The Hammer’ Schultz as the biggest Broad St. Bully gets his place in the Flyers Hall of Fame. The place will be packed and the fandom will be wild.  Flyer greats will be in attendance and we’ll be putting the Hammer in it’s rightful place.  And if that wasn’t good enough for you, we also get to play the red-hot New Jersey Devils.  It’s only fitting to play a hated rival on a night where we celebrate the most intimidating player ever.  I wouldn’t be surpised if Schultz himself laces up and plays for our 4th line tonight.  Something tells me he can still muck it up. Whenever we play the Devils, it seems like something important is on the line.  Tonight is no different, as New Jersey is trying to tie for the longest road winning streak to start a season.  Record is 10, they have 9.  Also, Fatty McNugget is going for the alltime shutout record as well.  Terry Sawchuk has 103, Brodeur has 102.  So you couple the motivation that NJ will have with the energy the Flyers will be brining and it will be a classic game.  I love playing against the Devils because they are so easy to hate.  Seriously, name me a player that you like on NJ.  I dare you.  It’s impossible to like anyone on that team.  What, Parise?  Langenbruner?  Zajac?  Give me a fucking break.  But to give credit where credit is due, New Jersey is machine.  All these years where they aren’t supposed to be good and are supposed to fade, they always make those pundits look like fools.  They have a great system, draft extremely well and give amazing contribution from no name guys.  They have a solid blueline, good checking line and the best goalie ever.  That’s how you win cups and battle year in, year out.  I still hate their guts. For the Flyers, looks for the Rabbit to be back on the ice.  After missing the Buffalo game with the Flu, JVR looks set to dominate once more.  Panotch is reporting that Giroux will be centering Powe and Asham, a move that means Mika Pyrorala will again be on the 1st line with Ricahards.  Briere-Carter-Rabbit line should factor into this game in a positive way for Philly.  They have the speed and finesse to fly right past any defence and I can see them accounting for the majority of the points tonight.  New Jersey always does a good job on the counter rush so keeping the puck deep and good two-way play will decide the game tonight.  There will be battles and most definitely some fights.  With King Hammer in attendance, the place might turn into the Roman Coliseum.  Seriously, would it surprise you if Carcillo came out in full gladiator armor, brandishing a broadsword?  Schultz sitting in the Emperor’s box, getting fed grapes from the IceGirls as he decides with a thumbs up or down the fate of a beaten Matt Clarkson.
