Kubina, Lilja, Talbot all due back tonight

It appears the Flyers will be getting three of their injured players back for Tuesday’s home game with Florida. A day after the Flyers announced defenseman Andrej Meszaros will undergo back surgery this week, defensemen Pavel Kubina and Andreas Lilja, and forward Max Talbot are expected to return. Traded from Tampa to Philly in March, Kubina played seven games for his new team and then missed seven with a lower-body injury that’s believed to have been a groin issue. “It’s been real hard the last two weeks, but the team’s been playing great and it’s been fun to watch the team,” said Kubina, who says he was injured on the last shift of the Flyers’ game with Detroit on March 6.

Meszaros headed for back surgery

Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros, out since March 1 with a lower-body injury, actually has been nursing a serious upper-body injury that probably will end his season. Meszaros will undergo surgery on Wednesday to remove a small disc fragment in his lower back. The procedure, which will be performed by Dr Alex Vaccaro at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, will sideline Meszaros for another 6-to-8 weeks, and with the Flyers’ regular season ending two weeks from Saturday, it appears he’s done for the year unless his team goes on a long playoff run. Meszaros, 26, has 7 goals, 18 assists and 25 points in 62 games this season.

Timonen, Voracek expected back tonight

All-Star defenseman Kimmo Timonen and left wing Jakub Voracek are expected to return to the Flyers lineup for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Shut down for five games due to a nagging back injury, Timonen participated in Tuesday’s morning skate in Voorhees and said afterward that he was “95 percent sure” he’d play tonight. “It’s one of those things where I don’t think it’s gonna go away, but hopefully it will last,” Timonen said. “We’ll see.” Timonen had played 248 consecutive regular-season games until sitting out a March 4 game in Washington and four more after that. “Mentally, it’s been great, actually,” Timonen said.
