Lightning over Flyers 4-2

The Flyers lost to the Lighting for the second time this season Tuesday night 4-2.
Umberger picked up his first NHL goal, Sim scored the other one on a power play. A couple positives for the Flyers is killing both penalty kills successfully and wining majority of the face-offs. That’s about it. The Flyers were outplayed out and hustled in their own arena.

“They’re a championship team because they compete very hard for the puck on a consistent basis. We still have players who go in fits and starts in that area. On the third goal, we got out competed four times on a loose puck and it ended up in our net. And it was the same thing on the fourth goal.” – Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said.

Indeed.

The last regulation loss at home was opening night against the Rangers. Forsberg had a five game point streak snapped. Taylor, Dimaio and Handzus were the three stars.
Forsberg played his 600 game, which is only a big deal to him. NHL players after playing 600 games don’t have to share a hotel room on the road. Forward Pat Kavanagh was called up from the Phantoms and saw some ice time. Desjardins made his return from being out with a concussion. He ended up with 23 minutes of ice time.
The Flyers were without Savage, Seidenberg, Richards, Primeau and Kapanen.

I am beginning to wonder whether the Lighting are the new Devils for the Flyers. In years past the Flyers always had to go thru the Devils, most of the time being unsuccessful. Recently the Flyers have beaten the ‘curse’. Going back to last years playoffs and the two games this year it looks like the Flyers have another team them must figure out. Hopefully it won’t take them as long as it took finally beating the Devils.
