The Philadelphia Flyers acquired center Kiel McLeod from the Phoenix Coyotes for right wing Eric Chouinard in a trade of minor leaguers on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old McLeod has an assist and 33 penalty minutes in 28 games this season for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.
“Kiel is a big kid and we think there is some potential that has yet to be tapped into,” Flyers assistant general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He is a player that our scouting has been enamored with because of his size.”
The 6-foot-6 McLeod, who signed as a free agent with the Coyotes in 2003, will report to the Flyers’ AHL affiliate – the Philadelphia Phantoms.
Chouinard, originally drafted in the first round of the 1998 draft by Montreal, was scoreless in one game with the Flyers this season and had seven goals and seven assists in 14 games with the Phantoms.
Another Center, just what the Flyers need.
