The Flyers head to Pittsburgh to play the Penguins this afternoon.
Another weekend, another Flyers game on national TV, another game to listen about the awesomeness of Sid. Awesomeness is that actually a word? Another game for Hatcher and Sid to get to know each other.
This is the 5th meeting between the two teams this season. The Flyers have won 3 of 4. The Flyers last loss in Pittsburgh in November of 2002.
Injuries for the Flyers include Eric Desjardins, Peter Forsberg, Kim Johnsson and Keith Primeau.
Injuries for the Penguins include Jocelyn Thibault, Ryan VandenBussche and Brooks Orpik.
Robert Esche will be getting his first start in goal since mid December after recovering from a groin injury. Will there be rust? Will the 15 pound weight loss make him quicker? We will have to see. Not expecting him to re-injure himself like he did earlier in the year. He wasn’t coming back until ‘he was 110%’ÂÂ. Antero Niittymaki will serve as backup. Jamie Storr who served backup to Niittymaki was sent back to the Phantoms. Storr didn’t see any action during the 17 games of Esche’s injury.
Joni Pitkanen will also be back in the lineup after being out since early December with a sports hernia.
Petr Nedved will make his first start as a Flyer after being traded from Phoenix for Dennis Seidengerg.
Simon Gagne needs one goal to reach 33 for the season which would tie his career high in the NHL set during the 01-02 season.
Potential lines for today are Nedved-Kapanen-Radivojevic, Handzus-Gagne-Knuble.
