Flyers tried to free up $260,000 in cap space today by waiving Turner Stevenson.
No one is expected to pick him up because it is common knowledge that the right wing has major problems in his right hip going back to several surgeries ago in New Jersey.
Paul Holmngren, assistant GM to Bob Clarke, told Stevenson today he was being waived.
“He told me it was strictly a salary cap move, they want to clear some space to do something,” Stevenson told the Philadelphia Inquirer this afternoon. “If they do it now, I should clear. If they wait to do it after the trade deadline, then someone can pick me up for half salary next season.”
He has one year left on his deal at $1.254 million same salary as this season.
Stevenson missed 33 total games this season with problems in his right hip and right labrum.
“Hopefully, I clear waivers and get a chance to heal,” Stevenson said. “They don’t think anyone will claim me.” [.continue.]
