I was uneasy at first to post this until I saw it on Comcast Sportsnet on the 1 AM edition. Earlier tonight there was some buzz on the internet that Desjardins was to retire, and SportsNite (Late Night – 1 AM) confirmed just that.
Desjardins will retire as the #2 defensemen in Flyers history in points behind only Mark Howe.
Desjardins also served as the Flyers captain. He has played in 3 NHL All-Star games. He won the Barry Ashbee Trophy (best Flyers defenseman) 7 times, the Yanick Dupre Award (Flyer who best illustrates character, dignity and respect for the sport both on and off the ice.) once. Desjardins also won the Cup in 1993 with Montreal.
He was also #2 in games played by a Flyers defenseman behind Joe Watson
Desjardins also holds the record (with 9 others) for most goals in a playoff game by a defenseman with 3. June 3, 1993.

An Eric Desjardins tribute page with some cool picts.
Injuries just caught up to him, he was a great player in his prime. With all he has accomplished as a player he should not have any regrets.
