Flyers claim Dmitry Afanasenkov

As reported by TSN.ca

The Philadelphia Flyers continue to make more changes to their lineup, claiming forward Dmitry Afanasenkov off waivers from Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Afanasenkov, a member of the 2004 Stanley Cup champions, has six points in 33 games this season. He was originally drafted by the Lightning in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

In 186 career NHL games, the 26-year-old has 19 goals and 39 points.

So what does the scouting report say
Assets – Has tremendous one-on-one moves and great hockey sense. Forechecks very well and owns two-way acumen. Is extremely well-liked and versatile.
Flaws – Must start burying the glorious scoring chances he receives on a regular basis. His hands may never reach the same level as his brain and legs.
Career potential – Two-way winger.

hhmmm Must start burying scoring chances, sounds like half the Flyers now.

On Pace this year: 77 Games 7 Goals 7 Assists minus-14 plus/minus

Nice he will fit right in.
Career high goals in the NHL was 9 and 10 in assists.

$738,045 in salary signed last July to a one year contract.

  1. Let’s hope he will be an asset to the team. I thought he was older than 26. It seems he’s been around a long time. But I think they really need some new blood, and some younger blood, too. I wish him well!

  2. I have read some comparing him to Branko Radivojevic, a hard working third/fourth line winger with a little bit more offensive upside. One thing the Flyers lost last year with not resigning Radivojevic and trading Jon Sim and Patrick Sharp is some of the hard working muckers. I think the Flyers are trying to bring in players that will bring back some of that type of work ethic along with sending back the Phantom call-ups that just aren’t ready for the NHL.
