Only one game on tonight as the Red Wings come to Philly to take on the Flyers. Game is on VS.
Before the game the Flyers will honor former captain Keith Primeau. Primeau was selected 3rd overall by the Red Wings in the 1990 entry draft. Primeau played about 4 full seasons for the Flyers. While Primeau is remembered for the one strong playoff run he had in 03-04 he is also remembered by some for running Flyers hall of famer Bill Barber out of town as coach. There are fans in Carolina and Detroit that also have some negative memories of him. I don’t really want to rain on his parade, but I really don’t see the reason to honor him. I guess its the captain thing. It will be interesting to see if the Flyers honor Lindros after he retires.
Anyway, the Flyers are coming off a 4-3 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. The Red Wings are coming off a 7-4 win against the Flames last night.
Detriot won the last meeting between the teams 6-3 on January 12,2006.
Seems that Michael Leighton will get his second start in goal.
Injuries for the Flyers the same 2 as lately Mike Rathje and Robert Esche.
Detriot has a decent list of injuries Jiri Fischer, Dominik Hasek, Tomas Kopecky, Danny Markov, Chris Osgood and Mikael Samuelsson.
So can the Flyers get a 2nd home win in a row? I don’t know. The Red Wings usually has the Flyers number. While the game is in Philly I cant forget that the Flyers have not won a game in Detroit since November of 1988.
For the fist time this season the Flyers have won 2 straight games at home as they beat the Red Wings 6-1.
There has been few really enjoyable games to watch as a Flyers fan and this was one of them. Richards scored short handed, Umberger scored twice, Gagne, Fedoruk and Forsberg each added a goal. The game was tied going into the 3rd period and then the goals for the Flyers just started coming.
Leighton was solid in goal giving up 1 goal on 32 shots. Detriot went with Macdonald in net with Osgood and Hasek out with injury. I suspect the game would have been much closer if either one would have played, but I’ll take the small blowout win.
Coach John Stevens
“This is kind of what we have been pushing for. We want to play hard hockey. We want to be the Philadelphia Flyers.”
The Flyers have more wins so far in February then they did in January or December, lets keep it up.
Hatcher was a team leading +4, wow. Forsber is at +2 for the year, the Flyers only plus player.
Forsberg, Umberger and Richards were the 3 stars.
Forsberg played his 100th as a Flyer.
