Flyers open up the season tonight against the Rangers at 7pm at what soon to be the WF Center.
First game of the year for the Flyers, fourth for the Rangers.
The Rangers coming off a 4-2 win over the Blackhawks last night in New York.
The Flyers last played on Tuesday losing to their AHL affilate team the Phantoms 4-2. The last game played at the Spectrum by the Flyers. Hey Ed, here’s an idea. Flyers make the playoffs, have at least one game at the Spectrum. Would that not rock?
The big non-hockey related news about tonight’s game is that Republican vice presidential candidate, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin will be joining the winner of the teams “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest for the dropping of the puck opening face-off ceremony. Personally I think the amount of time that the media and bloggers have spent on this pre and will postgame is a bit much. Much more time spent on the chatter then the actual event itself. She will be on the ice for what 60 seconds tops? Just to smile maybe let a puck fall out of her hand and shake hands with a few hockey players? Who the F cares. Anyone remember who did the ceremonial puck drop last year opening night, or any other game for that matter? Fans at the game or watching on TV will have forgotten about once the Ref drops the puck and the game actually starts.
With Parent, Jones and Hatcher out the defense will be the question mark, as it has been in recent memory. Timonen and Coburn look to get most of the ice time. Eminger, Kukkonen, Vaananen and the Flyers first round pick this past June Luca Sbisa will be the other 4 D-man.
Looking at the Flyers roster, 4 Fins, 17 Canadians, 1 Italian and 2 from the states.
