ONE OF THE truly regrettable phrases in the modern sporting lexicon, worse even than “walkoff homer,” is “statement game.” (And the fact that it has probably appeared at some point or another beneath this byline – undoubtedly in a youthful, wayward moment – does nothing to alter that reality.)
