Giroux, Stevens talk about center’s expectations

Claude Giroux and John Stevens Quotes from Friday, September 4, 2009, Courtesy Philadelphia Flyers CLAUDE GIROUX Q:  Were you surprised at your success with the Flyers last season? GIROUX:   “Yes, a bit.  I really didn’t know what to expect.   I think I just got adapted.  After every practice and every game I would learn more.  I think I became a better hockey player by the end of the season.   This coming season I think I know a little bit more and know what to expect than last year.    Last year when I came to camp I really didn’t know what to expect.   This year I hope to understand more what to do on the ice and off the ice.” What are your expectations this season? GIROUX:   “I just want to get better.  I want to work hard and I am going to work hard.  I still have things to prove to get a spot on this team.  I think this camp is going to be huge for me.  I am ready to go and I am pretty excited to show what I can do.  Hopefully I can play the way I am capable of playing.   They have a really good team here and there really isn’t a lot of spots left.   I am really going to have to work hard and show them that I really want to be here.  It is going to depend on games and practices to show them that I am willing to work extra hard.” Q:  Do you have any personal goals for this season? GIROUX:  “I really haven’t thought about it too much.  I just want to work hard and get better and have fun out there.  I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself and try to have fun and enjoy myself.” Q:  Is this team better than last year’s team?
