General Management

Although I don’t really think Oskars Bartulis’ three year extension for $1.8M is going to work out the way Paul Holmgren is hoping it will, I do regard it as a savvy move from a GM that has been as hot and cold as the team he’s been managing for the past 4 seasons. This is a classic example of a general manager hedging his bets. Have you been impresses with Bartulis’ play this season? Me neither. But $600k is chump change even in a Salary Cap world and just on the off chance that Bartulis is blossoming into an NHL defenseman it’s worth the gamble. Holmgren had ol’ Oskars between a rock and a hard place and managed to pay him a little more than the league minimum while betting that he’d be able to eventually earn twice that on the open market in two seasons
