Steve Downie Channels Chuck Norris

I really don’t know how to start this post, so let me just get to the point – Steve Downie tried to kick Ryan Stone’s leg out from underneath him in a fight last night in Tampa. Not even a slew foot, but a legitimate foot on foot kick. Check it out at around the 40 second mark:

Downie, who has earned praise recently from head coach Rick Tocchet as being one of the Lightning’s better forwards, looks to be putting together a decent season in sunny F-L-A. He’s been putting up points in succession recently, and even though he’s played all over the lineup this season, was playing with the second line last night. After last night he has 12 points in 30 games and 71 penalty minutes. 30 points in an NHL season would be quite a milestone for the 22 year old, and quite a testament to his off-ice work ethic. To put it in perspective, Sean Avery notched a career high of 28 points as a 24 year old. And unfortunately, despite what I had hoped could be phased out, the comparison to Avery appears to be a fair one. That kick in last night’s fight is the definition of Busch League.
