You can’t say there wasn’t some small part of you that thought, or at least hoped, that when you saw Brian Boucher being examined over at the Flyers bench during last week’s loss to Florida that Michael Leighton was something these guys could rally around. When nothing seems to be the kick in the ass that your team needs having a goalie backstopping you with a taped up helmet is as strong as the coffee gets. And although it hasn’t been pretty over the last three games, as the Flyers themselves are freely willing to admit, they have earned six points and are now only two points back from being in a three way tie for 8th place in the Conference. That’s something you can work with.   Getting up to and then through the Winter Classic involves beating a team that we owe one to and then the Bruins in a circus game after we already were able to storm back against them a couple of weeks ago. If we can somehow win these two suddenly things don’t seem so desperate.
