A wedding ring represents the lifelong commitment and love shared between a man and a woman. When you’re getting married, the metaphors start pouring out of jewelers mouths as they try to get you to believe that the most expensive ring means you care the most. I think it’s a load of crap. Not the wearing of the ring, just the cultural hoo-hah that’s been built up behind it. As a married man, I find that wearing a ring wards off the average glance and is effective to send the message that “Hey, sorry ladies, off the market.” I only take it off for rare occasions. Does it mean I’m less married when I have it off as when I have it on?
