Emery to undergo hip surgery, out for season

The Flyers announced today that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery in the near future to repair his right hip and will be out for the remainder of the season, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren. “He is suffering from avascular necrosis and will have a bone graft done to alleviate his hip issues,” said Holmgren. The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Ruch at Duke University Medical Center. The date and time of the procedure will be determined at a future date. Emery, 27, has a 16-11-1 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .905 save percentage, including three shutouts, in 29 appearances with the Flyers this season.
