Tonight is yet another must win for the Flyers as they take on the Bruins in Game 6 of the second round. The Flyers withstood the Bruins best attack and remained standing through 3 games. Now it’s the Flyers dictating play, providing the energy and showing everyone that it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish. Tonight is going to be amazing. The atmosphere after winning the last two games will be bonkers, and the fans should really let the team hear it. I implore any of you going tonight to never sit down…never shut up…and throw condoms at Boston fans . Check that, this is Killadelphia, maybe we should throw batteries tucked into condoms tonight, to give it our own little touch. The Bruins will come out and do everything in their power to end this series. Much like in game 5, it will be the team who is most desperate that will carry the play, and we all hope that its the Orange and Black. With Leighton back in net, it will be very interesting to see how the defense responds in front of him. They were excellent all year in blocking scoring opportunities and allowing Leights to handle easier work. Team defense is ridiculously important tonight, and the team that plays better in its own end with be victorious. Is there more pressure on the Flyers to limit the action Leighton sees, or the Bruins in cutting down on shots that Rask has to handle. He has given up 4+ goals in the last two games…. For the offense, everybody hits, woooooo! I loved seeing Leino and Hartnell running around dominating the B’s, and I bet for Harts, it felt amazing. A season of frustration almost erased with a great individual effort. If we get the effort out of Harts, Leino and the suddenly explosive Simon Gagne, it helps ease the pressure of our powerplays and also opens up the third line guys like Giroux and Asham to get alot more shots on net. Mike Richards is doing the little things, especially driving the star Bruins nuts. Marc Savard is too busy worrying about where Richards will be than scoring goals right now. Captains do what needs to be done, and Richie is being double shifted at times and playing in all ends. He’s willing this team to victory. When he’s motoring, the whole team is motoring. Richie and Pronger and locked in and have this team motivated. Guys playing hurt, guys getting hurt, guys stepping up…the playoffs are a war, and this team is in its Gettysburg right now. Aside from everything else, today I feel proud to be a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers. I know that sounds lame, but its true. I’m proud to be a fan of this team. Such a ragtag bunch of characters, Odd comparison alert, but I can’t remember any Flyers team that reminded me of the 1993 Philadephia Phillies so much. This Flyers team has everything you want in a hockey club. Veteran leaders, superstars, role players, rookies, role players, grinders, snipers, idiots, hot heads, fighters, danglers, all stars and a Riley Cote. They are a cohesive mix of guys that’s been through what feels like three seasons in the span of one. Their emotion is infectious and they can win the city tonight with a resounding win. Sometimes you feel a season is ready to end. Tonight, I don’t think anyone has that feeling. Its one game at a time, and yet again, the Flyers play the most important game of their season tonight. This slobberknocker of a playoff series will continue within the frantic walls of the Wachovia Center.
