Now that Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has the luxury of a healthy lineup, he’s using it as a motivational tool. Saturday night against the Islanders Laviolette benched second-year left wing James van Riemsdyk in favor of rookie callup Eric Wellwood, who assisted on the Flyers’ game-winning goal in their 2-1 victory. This was supposed to be a breakout season for Van Riemsdyk, the second player taken in the 2007 NHL draft, but the 21-year-old winger has no goals in his first 13 games.
