At some point this month the Flyers will be forced to make Michael Leighton a part of their 23-man roster. Thanks to an appeal by general manager Paul Holmgren and some leniency by the NHL, that decision has been delayed at least one week. The NHL granted the Flyers permission to extend Leighton’s rehab assignment with the Phantoms for an additional two games, meaning he can return to the Phantoms and play two of their three games this weekend when they visit the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, return home to face the Portland Pirates on Saturday, and hit the road to face the Connecticut Whale on Sunday
