Inside the Flyers’ Western road trip

Technically, the Flyers’ longest road trip of the season – five games over 12 days — ends Thursday night when they visit the New Jersey Devils. However, the team returned home Sunday night following an impressive 3-2 win over the Red Wings in Detroit, allowing the players to sleep in their own beds three nights before a quick trip to Newark for the first of back-to-back games against the Devils. The Flyers went 2-2 on their road trip, not bad considering they played their worst defensive hockey of the season in a three-game stretch against the Canucks (a 6-2 loss), the Kings (a 7-4 win) and Ducks (a 5-2 loss). Coach Peter Laviolette rotated all three of his goalies – Brian Boucher, Michael Leighton and Sergei Bobrovsky – in the first three games of the trip but his decision to start Boucher in Detroit spoke volumes
