Emery signs with Ducks, placed on waivers

Free-agent goaltender Ray Emery has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Anaheim Ducks that will pay him $500,000 if he plays in the NHL and $105,000 if he plays in the AHL. If the Flyers claim Emery they must place him on their NHL roster and pay him $500,000. That means they would need to either carry three goalies (bad idea) or send Bobrovsky to the Phantoms (another bad idea). If Emery clears waivers by noon on Tuesday, he will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch. He has not played at the pro level since undergoing radical hip reconstruction last April.
