Flyers’ magic numbers are 6 and 8

CLINCHING SCENARIOS The Flyers have a “magic number” of six points to clinch the Atlantic Division, meaning any number of points adding up to six that are gained by the Flyers or lost by the Penguins would clinch the division for the Flyers. The Flyers have already clinched the first tiebreaker (overall non-shootout wins) over the Penguins. The magic number for the Flyers to clinch the Eastern Conference outright is eight points over Washington, meaning any number of points adding up to eight gained by the Flyers and lost by the Capitals would clinch the conference for the Flyers. A magic number of seven points would guarantee at least a tie in points; however, the tiebreakers are still undetermined. The Flyers currently lead the first tiebreaker with 43 non-shootout wins to Washington’s 40.
