In a perfect world, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren would like to sign goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, re-sign right wing Ville Leino and move up into the first two rounds of this weekend’s NHL draft. Whether he needs to trade Jeff Carter to make all of that happen remains to be seen. In a conference call with reporters today, Holmgren said he believes the salary cap will increase a “significant” amount and that he hopes the additional cap space affords him the opportunity to sign Bryzgalov, who is believed to be seeking in the neighborhood of $6 million a season, and Leino, who is believed to be seeking $3 million a year. Holmgren said negotiations with Bryzgalov will resume on Tuesday, but made it clear there are differences between the two sides on both the length and value of the contract.
