When I was a student at Penn State, there was a joke going ’round about Pope Paul VI.

It’s been too long for me to remember the specifics, but I do remember this: The punch line was, “So who was that guy with so-and-so?”

The joke was some guy being more famous than the Pope and everyone knew him on sight. Instantly.
