Meltzer’s Musings: Roster Cuts, Line Combos, Prospects in Action

FLYERS PLACE FOUR ON WAIVERS

After making 28 roster cuts on Wednesday to greatly reduce the size of their training camp roster, the Flyers made four additional cuts yesterday. The team has placed goaltender Yann Danis, forwards Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, and defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon on waivers for purposes of assigning them to the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms.

The most notable cuts made yesterday included 2013 first-round pick Samuel Morin, who was reassigned to the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJ

SATURDAY QUICK HITS

During the first session, the Flyers captain tested out his hand by shooting the puck. That activity was not supposed to be part of his recovery timetable from right index finger tendon repair surgery until next week.

NO CLARITY ON CLEARY

There is still no concrete information to report on the status of Daniel Cleary, following an earlier report from HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman that the veteran winger’s previously announced arrangement with the Flyers had hit a snag and he would not be coming to Philadelphia.

Earlier this week, Detroit Free Press writer Helene St. James reported that Cleary and the Flyers ha

WILL CLEARY HOLD UP FOR THREE SEASONS?

Although it is technically only a professional tryout (PTO) for the time being, the widely reported three-year contract between Daniel Cleary and the Flyers should be officially acknowledged and announced by the time the opening night roster is set. Before that, the Flyers must carve out cap space to accommodate Cleary.

In addition, with the Flyers cur
