Chris Pronger discusses surgery, goalies, Richards

Flyers Defenseman Chris Pronger Q: How did the surgery go and how are you feeling? ”Well, as far as I was told it went very well. It relieved a lot of the weakness I was having in my leg and now it is just a matter of how the nerve regenerates itself and the range of motion and all the rest of that stuff. How it recovers and that stuff are probably another four to five weeks before we see where that is at.” Q: Can you tell us about the decision to have the surgery, was that an option you were given or was it pretty clear you had to have it?

A full transcript will follow, but Pronger said he was brought to Philadelphia two years ago to help Richards become a better captain and he believes Richards has “made some strides.” “At the end of the day you have to realize it’s a team sport,” Pronger said

Exclusive: Holmgren on Richards vs. media

I was going through my tape recorder today and came across a one-on-one interview I had with Paul Holmgren in March. We were discussing Mike Richards and I asked him if he thought it was important for the captain of a hockey team to speak with the media. This was Holmgren’s response (remember, this was before all the post-season questions about Richards’ captaincy) : “I would hope that as he gets older and more mature he’ll get better. I mean, I don’t like dealing with you guys either, not because I don’t like you guys or anything like that
