JVR “maintenance day,” Leighton lower body

According to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren, RW James van Riemsdyk had a “maintenance day” today and did not practice. G Michael Leighton also sat out today’s practice with what Holmgren termed a “lower body injury.” C Jeff Carter (knee) and LW Andreas Nodl (eye) did not practice and are being listed as day-to-day.

Danny’s Diary: ‘They couldn’t really keep up’

In the final installment of Danny’s Diary, Flyers center Danny Briere takes you through the congratulatory handshake line following the Flyers’ seven-game, first-round playoff victory against his former team, the Buffalo Sabres: It was a huge relief to get by Buffalo, no doubt about it. These guys played us hard and made it really tough on us. We said at the beginning that Ryan Miller might steal a couple games, which he did. It was a little close for comfort for my liking, anyway, so last night was a huge relief to get it done. I really enjoyed how, once again with everything on the line the last two games, we really stepped it up the last five periods.
