Notes from Flyers’ 2-1 shootout loss to Pens

The Flyers went to the shootout for the fourth consecutive game, which marked the first time that has happened since the inception of the event at the start of the 2005-06 season. They are now 3-6 in eight shootouts this season and have gone 1-3 in this four-game shootout stretch. Individual shootout records: Ville Leino – 2-for-4 Claude Giroux – 2-for-8 Danny Briere – 3-for-9 Mike Richards – 1-for-5 Sergei Bobrovsky – 1-3, 7 GA on 15 shots Mike Richards scored his second goal in the last three games after going nine straight without a goal. Flyers sign Bimidji forward Matt Read

The Flyers announced today that they have signed 5-10, 185-lb forward Matt Read to a free-agent contract that will begin at the start of the 2011-12 season, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Read, 24 (6/14/86), was the team captain during his senior season at Bemidji State University, a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.  He posted 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points in 37 games, leading the team in goals and finishing second in points. A native of Ilderton, Ontario, Read re-wrote the BSU record books for the Division 1 era of the school, which dates back to 1999.  He appeared in 147 career games, recording 65 goals and 78 assists for 143 points.  All of those totals are all-time school records in their particular categories.  Read appeared in 143 consecutive games for the Beavers, playing in every game over four years until he missed the final regular season game of his senior season before returning for the WCHA postseason
