JVR to go to Carolina

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said today that struggling winger James van Riemsdyk will make the trip to Carolina for this week’s team bonding and Thursday game in Carolina. There was some consideration about sending JVR to the Phantoms for a few games. More to come ..

What will Flyers do with JVR?

Could the Flyers be contemplating assigning second-year left wing James van Riemsdyk to the AHL Adirondack Phantoms for the first time since the end of the 2008-09 season? General manager Paul Holmgren must decide whether to send van Riemsdyk or rookie Eric Wellwood back to the Phantoms before the Flyers visit the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday night. Van Riemsdyk declined comment after the Flyers’ 3-2 overtime loss to the Capitals Sunday night, but his teammates talked openly about the winger’s struggles. “I went through exactly the same thing,” said center Danny Briere, who bounced around the minors his first four seasons as a pro. “It took me a long time to figure it out.

Inside Flyers’ 2-1 win over Islanders

Now that Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has the luxury of a healthy lineup, he’s using it as a motivational tool. Saturday night against the Islanders Laviolette benched second-year left wing James van Riemsdyk in favor of rookie callup Eric Wellwood, who assisted on the Flyers’ game-winning goal in their 2-1 victory. This was supposed to be a breakout season for Van Riemsdyk, the second player taken in the 2007 NHL draft, but the 21-year-old winger has no goals in his first 13 games.
