Lavy warned us. So much for the new lines the Flyers used at practice on Friday. Coach Peter Laviolette has thrown them all out for even different looks for Saturday night’s game with St. Louis. Now the top line has Scott Hartnell skating with Claude Giroux and Jaromir Jagr

Lavy gives lines bigger makeover at Friday practice

You’d think the Flyers were 1-4-1 instead of the other way around the way Peter Laviolette is tearing up his lines. Lavy’s changes for Thursday’s game, a 5-2 loss to Washington, weren’t stunningly dramatic, but the lines that he used for Friday’s practice at Skate Zone were. Claude Giroux was still centering Jaromir Jagr on the top line, but rookie center Brayden Schenn was at the other wing instead of James van Riemsdyk

You’ve got to appreciate the way Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen sacrifices his body night in and night out. No matter the situation, he’ll throw himself in harm’s way to block a shot.

All-rookie line intriguing

Brayden Schenn, the biggest prize the Flyers got back from the Los Angeles Kings this summer in the Mike Richards trade, was called up from the AHL on Tuesday and is expected to make his season debut in tonight’s showdown game against the Caps at Wells Fargo Center. It will be real interesting to see how Schenn initally will be used. My guess is he’ll replace fellow rookie Sean Couturier as the third-line center with Scott Hartnell and rookie Matt Read on the wings. Doing this allows Laviolette to keep Couturier at center on the fourth line because Max Talbot easily can slide to a wing.

Flyers host Caps in free Sept. 15 rookie game

The Flyers announced today that they will host the Washington Capitals in a preseason “Rookie Game” scrimmage on Thursday, Sept. 15.
