Photo/Getty The 2010 Philadelphia Flyers will enter October 7th in Pittsburgh as a team with a lot of expectations. After losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games last June, the Flyers decided to make minimal changes to try to keep this winning attitude in tact. With the arrivals of Nikolai Zherdev, Andrej Meszaros, Matt Walker, Sean O’Donnell, and Jody Shelley the Flyers added both a scoring touch and toughness to their lineup. When we look at departures, the only significant move was the trade that sent long-time fan favorite Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Michael Leighton finally received the respect he deserved when the Flyers rewarded the netminder with a new 2-year contract and the starting nod between the pipes

Flyers bit by injury bug, Laperriere and Leighton out

Every NHL team faces numerous injuries throughout the long grind of a season. Those injuries have already begun for the Philadelphia Flyers. GM Paul Holmgren revealed in a conference call with reporters Tuesday that starting goaltender Michael Leighton will be out for a month with a bulging disc in his lower back

Guerin signing makes sense

Photo/Getty A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that veteran winger Bill Guerin was at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees NJ skating. Speculation began that he potentially could become a member of the orange and black. Guerin and his agent quickly tried to dismiss those rumors by pointing out that he was simply in town visiting his in-laws & needed a place to skate, & the Flyers obliged. Fast forward a couple of weeks later, and Guerin is STILL in town skating in Flyers gear. In not so shocking news, it was finally revealed Monday that Guerin had accepted a tryout contract with the Flyers and will be at training camp starting this Friday

Guerin says he’s on tryout contract with Flyers

According to a text sent from Bill Guerin to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio, Guerin is on a tryout contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. This is all contrary to what Guerin’s agent, Bob Murray told the media over a week ago. Murray told media members that he and his client were only looking for a contract, not a tryout offer.
