Is It Really Just a Gesture by Flyers?

After thinking this over and talking to some of the Flyer personnel people, I get the sense that the entire Hal Gill tryout is really a gesture on the Flyers part to help him get some ice time, maybe a game or two, and get noticed.

Maybe someone will pick him up. Gill told me he was fully aware of the FLyers having too many defensemen – who would ever think we’d be saying that _ but he also t

Meszaros "Attytude" Better; Giroux On Sked

So what is more significant as the Flyers gear up for training camp: the fact that Andrej Meszaros is physically healthy or … that he has erased the mental demons that have hampered his recovery from numerous injuries the past three years?

It’s not an easy question to answer. Most hockey players will tell you that once a player begins to suspect he’s destined to be injured because of repeated

UPDATE: Claude Giroux skating, but no shots

Everyone I encountered at the construction site of what was once called Skate Zone in Voorhees, pretty had the same reaction in recent weeks.

When we talked about how long an off-season it’s been, they began counting the months on their fingers.

Four, full months and some days added on. That’s how long it’s been.

It drove Peter Laviolette insane. You don’t to prepare for the of

Coyotes Sold … Finally, For Real

The Phoenix Coyotes have been sold.

How many times have we heard that phrase since 2009? To me, it seems like a decade since the club declared bankruptcy and the NHL stepped in and took over.

But today, the Commish, Gary Bettman, made it official but announcing the NHL has completed the agreement with IceArizona AcquisitionCo., LLC. Renaissance Sports and Entertainment, LLC is the managi

My Take on Couturier Deal

As bad a sophomore slump as Sean Couturier had this past season, that was no excuse to sign early as an RFA.

Sure, RFAs have little leverage but his agent did him no favors on a two-year, $3.5 million extension with a modest bump in salary of $400,000.

All this has achieved is that it makes Couturier that much more attractive in a trade and the FLyers will go into next season with the same,

Here For A Reason

I don’t buy the theory that Ron Hextall came back here as the No. 2 GM in waiting just so he could leave to go somewhere else to be the No. 1.

If that were the case, then why leave LA as the No.2 behind Dean Lombardi? Does being No. 2 in Philly mean more than being No. 2 in LA? Of course not.

Also, there has been a number of GM openings in the NHL – Montreal, Edmonton, Columbus, St. Louis _

On Pressers, Camp, Et Al

Just had to put that Ilya Bryzgalov pix up there one more time, especially since we don’t have a Ray Emery one yet.

Strange week with the Flyers. They held a couple of developmental practices – that’s all they were and nothing else you could sink your teeth into _ at Skate Zone, went to the Jersey Shore one day, then returned to the ice on Thursday to wrap things up.

The Tuesday practice w

Q: Thoughts on joining the Flyers

Emery, Giroux Reactions

Claude Giroux contract is official and Ray Emery is your new, and very likely, No. 1 goalie for the Flyers.

Gonna be very interesting to see how Emery and Steve Mason work out in net this year. You got to be impressed with Emery’s attitude about being a better team guy and understanding that goaltending is a tandem operation.

Courtesy of the Flyers, here are the two transcripts of the con

Global Spectrum Enters Coyotes Realm

The Phoenix Coyotes chances to remain in Glendale, Arizona got a mighty big bump today when Global Spectrum announced it was joining Renaissance Sports & Entertainment to assist with the handling of Jobing.com Arena.

The fate of the Coyotes will finally be decided this evening (we think) at a Glendale City Council meeting.

But having the financial and infrastructure of Global Spectrum behi
