Young Mr. Game 7

The San Jose-Los Angeles series was truly entertaining.

Really like the way the Kings responded in Game 7 and how they came out with a purpose in mind and then proceeded to follow through the entire game.

Never ceases to amaze me how many ex-Flyers have an impact in the playoffs somewhere. Aside from the obvious of Mike Richards and Jeff Carter from a year ago this time with the Kings, you g

Voracek: "All Good."

Flyers winger Jakub Voracek is a very lucky guy.

He crashed his Ferrari in the Czech Republic on Wednesday and walked away uninjured.

“All good … no injuries, no alcohol,” he told me in a text.

His agent Petr Svoboda also told me, “He was very lucky. It’s a learning experience for him.”

His car suffered $150,000 damage. Given that he hit a truck, a tree and a utility pole, he could

What If …

One of the most frustrating aspects of following the Flyers over the years – decades – is how they have handled themselves regarding defensemen in the NHL Draft.

As much as you can make the case they have consistently failed to produce a No. 1 goalie of any “ilk” who took them to a Stanley Cup Final since Ron Hextall, the situation on defense is just as depressing.

Can you imagine if the F

Some Interesting Boston Ties to Past

Well, I took a pounding in my picks in the first round for the Western Conference, going 1-3 after being perfect in the East.

I didn’t think San Jose represented much of a threat; didn’t think Detroit would upset Anaheim; and I always try to find an upset and was encouraged with the Blues start against LA in that series but should have known better, I guess.

I still think we see either Pit

Should Have Pulled Fleury in 2nd

Couple of things really surprised me about Tuesday’s Penguins-Islanders Game 4 on the Island:

1) That Pens coach Dan Bylsma allowed goalie Marc-Andre Fleury to remain in the game after it was apparent in the second period he was a mess;

2) That Bylsma seems reluctant to make adjustments to his game while the Islanders came at Pittsburgh with speed and unrelenting pressure;

3) That Evgeni

Do You "Like" The Flyers Roster?

Things I liked on breakup day:

That general manager Paul Holmgren finally gave coach Peter Laviolette an endorsement for next season.

The feeling among the media was that Holmgren’s tepid responses in past weeks that he “expected” Laviolette back meant that he had to first run it by club president Peter Luukko and especially club chairman Ed Snider.

To blame Laviolette solely for the di

Who To Amnesty?

The big discussion these days on the Flyers is who to amnesty this summer.

Do you go with Ilya Bryzgalov or Danny Briere?

I am surprised at just how many tweets and emails I get that show pretty much a 50/50 split on this.

Everything I see and hear so far tells me that Briere will be the one. His rather candid interview earlier seems to support that, as well. His cap hit of $6.5 million i

I’d Let Mason Play It Out

Steve Mason started tonight in Carolina.

We were expecting that given the Canes have an aggressive forecheck and coach Peter Laviolette wanted to help his undermanned defense with someone who could perhaps play the puck more often to assist the Flyer D on the breakout.

Now that the Flyers are officially eliminated from the playoffs, I would like to see Mason play these final four games to ge

Where Does Mason Fit Long Term?

Interesting reaction on Twitter from Columbus Blue Jacket fans living in the midwest to Steve Mason.

They all like him but the book on him, they say, is that he can be very good or very average. Which sounds very much like what the Flyers have gotten from Ilya Bryzgalov these past two years.

I don’t think for a second Mason was brought here to unseat Bryz as the No. 1. Bryz needed someone

Is It Much Ado About Nothing?

During Saturday’s loss in Winnipeg, there was a shot on television showing the Flyers bench in the third period during a pause with goalie Steve Mason over at the bench.

As he approached, Ilya Bryzgalov shut his eyes and acted like he was sleeping or bored or whatever. He often makes faces and creates theatrics which is part of his makeup.

Which brings us to this question this morning: ami
