Hyka CAN’T Be Signed; Goes Back

Turns out the Flyers CAN’T sign Czech forward Tomas Hyka because of technicalities within the CBA. And technically speaking, he is not an unrestricted free agent eligible for signing. Flyers assistant GM Barry Hanrahan confirmed to CSNPhilly.com this morning that Hyka will be returned to his junior club in Gatineau today. The Flyers said they had been talking with the NHL trying to sort

Lighter Touch to Flyers Room

The Bryz will be in net tonight as the Flyers open up the home portion of their exhibition slate. We’re talking goalie Ilyz Bryzgalov. A bunch of us were chatting the other about how “loose” the Flyers dressing room is this year. Even some of the national reporters from Canada, who drop by infrequently, commented that the tension they sensed last year in the dressing room is gone. Three

Pronger named captain

I reported on CSNPhilly.com the same day Mike Richards was traded last June, that Chris Pronger would be offered the captaincy of the Flyers. JVR’s Deal; Briere on Captaincy

Strange day for me over at Skate Zone. I was sitting with Peter Laviolette when James van Riemsdyk walked into his office, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, then hustled out. Wish I had known about the contract extension – 6 years, $25.5 million_ then but didn’t hear of it for another 30 minutes. JVR would have had to wait till age 27 to be a UFA. This deal carries him past UFA

What Is Winter Classic Issue?

I honestly don’t know why there has been such a hangup on officially announcing the Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park. I thought this was a grand slam and would fall together quickly and easily. Afterall, the Phils are said to be easy to work with and there was no way this game could be played at The Link because of the NFL schedule. The game is still listed for Jan
