Fun Times on Home Ice Again

Ten is a row at home.

Not losses, but wins.

What a difference for the Flyers of December and now January than October-November.

‘Just taking advantage of an intimidating building to play in, in front of awesome fans,” goalie Steve Mason said Wednesday, following the Flyers 3-1 win over Montreal.

“When I came here with Columbus, it was one of the tougher rinks to play in. When we ha

Goal: Keep Second Place

Now that the Flyers have gotten into 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division, should they even allow themselves to think about trying to make a run at Pittsburgh?

They would say, ‘yes,’ but with a 17-point bulge, it’s out of the question.

What the Flyers need to do now is focus on retaining second place and at least the 7th overall playoff seed.

The 5-game Western road trip was a huge suc

Consecutive Shootout Wins? A Pleasant Rarity

A number of things stand out on the Flyers 5-game Western Canada road swing which sees the Flyers with 4 points after consecutive shootout wins.

Starters:

1) You have to go back to March of 2006 to find the last time the Flyers won two games in a row in a shootout.

Simple theory here. Ilya Bryzgalov was terrible in shootouts – 4-7 with the Flyers. The team has zero confidence in his abil

Set Up Nicely for Holidays

Home for the holidays.

Three days, that is, as the Flyers go into the Christmas riding a deserved high after a 4-1 win over Minnesota on Monday night.

They are over .500 – 17-16-4 _ and have the third spot in the Metro Division which means they have a playoff berth.

They are just four points behind the Washington Capitals for 2nd place, as well.

I thought Steve Mason looked a lot bette

Does Wilson Deserve a Suspension?

Poll question: Does Tom Wilson deserve a suspension for his hit from behind on Brayden Schenn or do our readers feel Caps GM George McPhee is correct in calling the charging play “a great hit?”

*

My problem with the hit is simple. Schenn turned into the boards. Yes, he put himself in a vulnerable position. Yes, he has to take responsibility for doing that.

But … Wilson was accelerati

Terrible Road Trip

No matter which direction you look at the Flyers’ just-completed, 12-day, 6-game road trip through North America, this wasn’t good.

2-3-1 doesn’t cut it for a team that appeared to have turned the corner, was in contention to grab a playoff spot – third in the Metro Division _ and hang onto i.

Instead, the Flyers returned home after a 7-2 pounding by the Chicago Blackhawks who are light year

A Different Culture Change

The Flyers hockey culture is about to change.

Peter Luukko resigned Monday as Comcast-Spectacor president and Flyers president.

The hockey side of the team and the organization will be very different now.

Luukko was a hockey player and a businessman. He bled the sport. He was actively involved in player acquisitions, trades, evaluation, everything on the hockey ops side besides being t

Looking To Extend Points Streak

Big day and big night in South Florida for the Flyers.

This afternoon, in Sunrise, the press box at BB&T Center will be officially renamed the “Roger Neilson Memorial Press Box,” in honor of the Panthers’ first coach.

Later this evening, the Flyers will try to move past the .500 mark with a victory. They have come quite a ways since mid-October when there seemingly was no hope this tea

Mason Giving Them Everything

I really wonder if anyone outside of Flyerdom realizes just how good Steve Mason has been for the Flyers this season.

With better offense at the start and tighter team defense through the first couple weeks of October, Mason could easily be among the league leaders in wins and goals against average.

Right now, he’s ranked 10th in one category – save percentage _ at .932.

He was again

Five of Six Ain’t Bad

THE PEG _ I was talking to Scott Hartnell after a scrum of reporters abandoned his corner of the dressing room on Friday night.

The Flyers had lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Jets.

“Well, it’s not devastating; you got a point,” I said.

Hartnell looked at me.

“What do you mean, not devastating? We had two points,” he said.

“No, three or four weeks ago, this would have been
