Timonen Angry After Demotion

He’s been the Flyers elder spokesman for a long time but what we know him best for over his eight years in Philly is his candor.

No one tells it more “like it is” than Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen. At 38, this is quite possibly his last season in the NHL.

He’s banged and beaten up and already this season, despite him saying he never felt better coming in, he has not a good start. No point

Skating In Circles

Bit of a strange day at Flyers practice.

Craig Berube skated their asses off. Again. Literally, he had them skating in circles and circles and circles.

All you needed was some Huskies and sleds.

It’s all part of the team’s rather poor conditioning. And that’s a mistake not just from the coaching staff but Flyers management for the disjointed training camp where the team didn’t get its

Injury Updates on Hartnell, Lecavalier

Look for Vinny Lecavalier back in the Flyers lineup Thursday when their schedule resumes against the Rangers.

Don’t look for Scott Hartnell. He sounds as if he is still a week away and that is on target as part of his 2-4 week recovery.

They skated Sunday for the first time at Skate Zone. Both were injured Oct. 11 against Phoenix.

Lecavalier has a lower body injury that sounds like a gr

It Could Have Been Worse

As bad as the Flyers played in the second period against Pittsburgh on Thursday, I got the feeling it could have been much worse.

We all kept waiting for a game of pond hockey to break out and in the end what we saw was the Pens box the Flyers into their end and just pepper away with shots on Steve Mason.

I think Pittsburgh seemed a bit disinterested, at times, at turning up the tempo in the

Must Win? Yeah, It Is

This is about as close to “must win” territory as you get less than 10 games into the season.

Regardless of what happens tonight between the Flyers and Sidney Crosby’s Penguins, nothing is going to affect Craig Berube’s job or even Paul Holmgren’s as the GM.

But a FLyer loss tonight would be especially devastating because they would have a full six days to contemplate its meaning before pl

Most Undisciplined Club in Hockey

Three games into the Craig Berube Era of Flyers hockey we continue to see the remnants of the Peter Laviolette, John Stevens, Ken Hitchcock, you name it, eras of the past.

The Flyers might want to escape their Bully image but their can’t seem to get out from under themselves with taking penalty after penalty.

This is about the image of a team fighting its way to a Stanley Cup. Hell, if the

Player Reaction to Laviolette Firing

Reaction from Flyers at Skate Zone today to Peter Laviolette’s firing and the hiring of Craig Berube:

Claude Giroux:

“That was a tough day yesterday. I was with Lavy for a while. To see him leave is a little sad. It’s the business part of it and we need to understand that. Having Chief coming in is going to have a different mindset. We only have today to work on some stuff. Guys are pret

Laughton Sent Back

Scott Laughton lasted 5 games with the Flyers as an 18-year-old prospect coming out of junior last winter.

This fall, he didn’t even make one game.

On Thursday morning, the Flyers sent the young centerman back to his junior club in Oshawa while recalling Kris Newbury – an even bigger surprise _ from the Phantoms.

Newbury over Michael Raffl, Tye McGinn and Chris VandderVelde? Apparently,

Moving Bodies Around to Save $$

Well, the trade we all thought was coming with the Flyers to help them shed a defenseman and get under the salary cap never materialized.

Instead the Flyers simply moved a couple players -Adam Hall and Bruno Gervais – to the Phantoms via waivers, then put Chris Pronger on LTIR to retrieve $4.9 million in cap space and get under the cap.

The roster they turned into the NHL today had just 21
