Flyers’ Briere out for a month with groin strain

Danny Briere will be sidelined four to five weeks with a "significant" groin strain that he aggravated in his return to action Tuesday against Tampa Bay, but Flyers coach John Stevens insisted the club didn’t rush the high-scoring center back too soon.

Paul Holmgren updates the status of Danny Briere after the 4-3 win against Tampa Bay on December 2, 2008.

Matt Carle scratched for tonight’s game with a lower upper body injury.

Bet On Flyers Over Stars

One of the reasons hockey doesn’t draw betting action, the kind that would warrant full disclosure of injuries, etc., is that it is a difficult game to figure out, in terms of bets. Perhaps more than any other sport, weird things happen in hockey games. Even so, as I look at the Flyers with a four-game win streak preparing to face the amazingly, slumping Dallas Stars tomorrow at the W

Jones out up to 16 weeks

Randy Jones

From Philly.com
Randy Jones will have surgery on labrum in his hip and will be out to at least late December or January.

General Manager Paul Holmgren “Tests showed it’s a more significant injury than we thought.”

Timonen expected to play in game 5

Good news for the Flyers if he can play. Game 5 is going to be tough, really tough for them to win.
Pittsburgh has not lost at home since February 24. If Timonen can go who to sit? Modry, Kukkonen, Parent?

Timonen out for the season

Just saw this on CSN Philly, Kimmo Timonen is out for the rest of the season with a blood clot in his left ankle.

Steve Coates said Timonen suffered the clot in game 4 of the Montreal series by blocking a shot.

This is huge. So I guess Modry will back in the lineup, or maybe Parent?

The Phantoms are down 3-1 in their playoff series with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins, they also play Friday night. I guess if they lose the Flyers will have more defensemen to pick from. Gauthier maybe?

Mike Knuble broken face

Paul Holmgren on Knuble’s injury.

Mike fractured both his right cheek bone and right orbital bone. He is going to need surgery for both of those fractures. We’re going to have the surgery delayed a few days until the swelling goes down. He will be re-evaluated again [Sunday] to see where that’s at. As soon as the swelling goes down enough he will have the surgery.

Baring any trades this gives Mike York some game time.
With Forsberg gone and Knuble out what does the top line look like?
Gagne, Sanderson and who? My vote for now, Richards.
