Flyers playing and flying in a fog

The Flyers’ longest road trip of the season, a 12-day, six-city tour, has gotten off to a terrible start in every conceivable way. First, their charter flight to Chicago had to be diverted, forcing them to play Dec. 26 without practicing in three days

Inside the Flyers’ loss to Columbus

BLUE JACKETS 3, FLYERS 0: The banged-up Flyers realized just how much their offense misses defensemen Kimmo Timonen and Matt Carle when they are not in the lineup. With both players nursing injuries the Flyers’ offense sputtered in the defeat. Timonen and Carle do not have the offensive flair of some of the NHL’s top blue liners, but they move the puck quickly to the Flyers’ explosive forwards and that puck movement was sorely missed against the Blue Jackets.

Time to trade Briere for Bouwmeester?

INSIDE SHOTS It’s still a few days away, but the Flyers have some very serious and very expensive roster decisions to make. Aside from switching from Martin Biron to Antero Niittymaki, the Flyers are likely to have same lineup in Columbus Saturday night as they had in their 5-1 loss in Chicago on Friday. But as the week unfolds, they’ll need to make salary space for veteran center Daniel Briere and rookie defenseman Ryan Parent

Flyers grounded (literally) in Chicago

BLACKHAWKS 5, FLYERS 1: This is why the NHL has a policy that states all visiting teams must arrive in the host city the night before a game. With just two days off between games the Flyers encouraged their players to spend Christmas with their families then reconvene in Chicago for the morning skate on Friday morning. That practice was canceled when the Flyers’ flight was re-routed from Midway Airport to O’Hare, forcing them to miss practice.
