The Calgary Sun has reported that former Flyer Peter Forsberg has been contacted by the Philadelphia Flyers to possibly return to the team as early as mid-November.
Currently Forsberg is recovering from his injuries last year by playing with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League.
Other teams interested in the veteran center are the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche and the Ottawa Senators. The Stars made the impressive move of sending GM Doug Armstrong and special adviser Brett Hull to Sweden to meet with Forsberg in a face-to-face meeting.
Phillyburbs.com writes, “he (Forsberg) wants to return to Philly to make amends for last season.â€ÂÂ
Flyers GM Paul Homegren would welcome him with arms wide open. “If Peter is going to come back and he’s healthy, we would have interest,†Holmgren confirmed the other day. “And we would hope that he would have interest in coming here.â€ÂÂ
The Flyers however only have $2.5 million in cap space left after all of their signings in the off season. Hopefully Forsberg will want to play due to the fact at how great the team has looked so far this year and not for the money.
I took the liberty to come up with some offensive line combinations if Forsberg would return….
Richards – Forsberg – Upshall
Richards – Forsberg – Lupul
Lupul – Forsberg – Kapanen
Kapanen – Forsberg – Hartnell
You decide!
Right now there is no room on this team…salary wise or chemistry wise, for Footsberg.
As much as I love Forsberg, unless we have an injury, we may be able to do without him. Since he was a part of “the season that shall not be named” it might not be good to have a reminder of said season sharing the bench with the new crew…
It wouldn’t surprise me if Forsberg would suddenly be able to play near playoff time. He did the same thing in 2001/02 in Colorado after missing the entire season with the spleen thing.
If that happened the cap shouldn’t be too much of an issue. The injury train is due soon, if the Flyers follow the pattern of the last couple seasons.
Forsberg is done. Signing him would be a waste of $$ for the 6 games he would play in 2007-2008. Don’t drink the kool-aid!
But if he were a flyer, he should be reunited with Gagne, no? Why no Gags on the line combos?
Given Forsbergs recent issues while practicing with the Swedish national team I don’t think there will be any kool-aid to drink.
Forsberg – “I will have to go back to the doctors to see if there’s something I can do. I’m not going to play if it’s not working. I might as well retire. I’ve never been so close to the end of my career. I don’t want any major procedures. If it’s a small thing they can fix, I’ll be OK. If not, I think I’ll let it be. It’s looking pretty dark.”
So Lindros retires a little early cause of his head and Forsberg will probably retire a little early cause of his feet.
Looks like Fors might need some more surgery for his foot again…so its looking like he wont make a return and might be forced to retire early. He has to miss some upcomming games which he apologized to the fans who bought the tickets.
As far as no Gagne on the lines I mentioned…Gagne was already on a great 1st line, and I was thinking of Fors as a 2nd line or 3rd line center. Doubt they would put Gagne that low…but who knows…
