Inside Flyers’ 3-2 loss to Buffalo

Retaliation penalties to Dan Carcillo and Danny Briere led to power-play goals by Thomas Vanek and Paul Gaustad and that proved to be the difference in a loss that snapped the Flyers’ win streak at five. “The penalties kind of killed our momentum,” Flyers captain Mike Richards said. The Flyers took nine penalties and gave the Sabres seven power plays, but the killer penalty came 4:29 into the third period with the Flyers trailing by a goal and on the power play. Sabres defenseman Chris Butler nailed Briere in the chest with a cross-check, but instead of going on a two-man advantage, the Flyers found themselves shorthanded when Briere responded with a hard chop to Butler’s left shoulder, drawing a double minor for high sticking.
