Richards, Pronger react to Stevens firing

By CHUCK GORMLEY Courier-Post Staff PHILADELPHIA The Flyers have scheduled an 8 p.m. news conference to announce the firing of head coach John Stevens and the hiring of former Carolina Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette. Locked in a 1-6 tailspin with an overall record of 13-11-1, the Flyers are hoping the hard-edged style of Laviolette will snap their players to attention in the wake of Stevens’ low-key approach. In parts of four seasons with the Flyers, Stevens went 120-109-34 and reached the playoffs twice, going to the Eastern Conference finals two years ago and being eliminated in the first round last year. “Obviously, I’m disappointed,” Flyers captain Mike Richards told the Courier-Post. “It’s not something anybody wanted to happen
