Flyers trade for Meszaros, re-sign Coburn

The Flyers didn’t wait until the free agency period began to land a defenseman. Just prior to today’s noon start of free agency, Paul Holmgren acquired 24-year-old defenseman Andrej Meszaros from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a second-round pick in next year’s draft. Meszaros had six goals and 11 assists in 81 games with the Lightning last season. He carries a cap hit of $4 million and is signed for four years. He was originally selected by the Ottawa Senators as the 23rd overall pick in the 2004 NHL draft. The Flyers have also agreed to terms with defenseman Braydon Coburn on a two-year with the team at a cap hit of $3.2 million per year.
