Briere fined for swipe at Prust

The NHL has fined Flyers center Danny Briere an undisclosed amount for the punch he threw at Rangers forward Brandon Prust in the closing seconds of Sunday night’s 3-2 win in Madison Square Garden. In the waning seconds of the Flyers’ victory, their sixth in seven games, Prust drove Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen hard into the boards with a blindside hit that was borderline late. Replays show that as Prust passed the Flyers bench, Briere and Scott Hartnell took swipes at him, grazing him in the head before linesman Jean Morin escorted Prust to the bench. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Monday he was unaware of the incident but acknowledged Monday night that Briere had been fined. Although the NHL did not release the amount of the fine it is believed to be $1,000.
