Ed Snider on EJ McGuire’s passing
Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider on passing of EJ McGuire: “On behalf of the Philadelphia Flyers, I would like to personally extend my condolences to EJ’s wife, Terry and their daughters, Jacqueline and Erin. EJ was a close personal friend of mine who loved hockey as much as he loved life. I always enjoyed spending time with him.

Sad news: EJ McGuire passes away
Edward John “EJ†McGuire, Vice President of the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Bureau and one of the most beloved and respected men in hockey, died of cancer today. He was 58. McGuire had been director of Central Scouting since 2005.

Flyers would win tiebreakers over Caps, Pens
Flyers’ tiebreakers If the Flyers finish in a first-place tie with the Washington Capitals by winning their final two games and the Capitals losing their final game, the Flyers will win the Eastern Conference based on either the first tiebreaker (non-shootout wins) or by the third tiebreaker (goal differential). If the Flyers finish in a tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers will win the tiebreaker based on non-shootout wins. Note: The Flyers can finish no lower than fourth in the conference, giving them home ice in the first round of the playoffs, which would begin no sooner than Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center.

Laviolette names ‘Bob’ his playoff starter
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette made it crystal clear today that rookie goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky will be his playoff starter and Brian Boucher will be his backup when the post-season begins next week. This comes on the heels of Michael Leighton clearing recall waivers and joining the Flyers. Leighton will practice with the club Thursday. “Our playoff starters are set. Leighton clears recall waivers
Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton has cleared NHL recall waivers and will join the club later this afternoon. Leighton did not practice with the Flyers today but is expected to be on the ice Thursday morning and could play Friday night in Buffalo or Saturday night at home against the Islanders. Flyers lines today: LW Andreas Nodl, C Mike Richards, RW Kris Versteeg LW Scott Hartnell, C Jeff Carter, RW Ville Leino LW James van Riemsdyk, C Claude Giroux, RW Nik Zherdev LW Dan Carcillo, C Darroll Powe, RW Jody Shelley Danny Briere (groin) is practicing, but not on a designated line. Philadelphia Flyers Post-Game Notes & Quotes April 5, 2011 Ottawa (5) – FLYERS (2) Mike Richards posted his fourth two-goal game of the season – three of which have come against Ottawa – and 19th of his career. He posted six goals and three assists for nine points in the four games against Ottawa this year. Richards and Jeff Carter each had six shots on goal and an additional four apiece that either missed or were blocked. Carter was 12-for-17 (71 pct) on faceoffs; Richards was 7-for-11 (64 pct). The Flyers have gone four games without a win for just the second time this season.
