Holmgren: Carter out 6 weeks, Gagne out 3

Just got off the phone with Paul Holmgren, who said Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne will undergo surgeries on their right feet on Friday. Carter will have a plate inserted into his right foot and will be on crutches for 6 weeks, likely putting him out of the remainder of the playoffs. Gagne will have two screws inserted near his right big toe and is looking at three weeks recovery time, putting him out of the second round of the playoffs. More to come …

Carter to have screw inserted in left foot

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that center Jeff Carter will undergo surgery on his left foot on Friday, Mar. 26 and is still expected to be out three to four weeks, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren. “He will have a screw inserted to aide the healing process,” said Holmgren. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Steve Raikin at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Carter, 25, suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left foot as a result from a blocked shot during the Flyers-Thrashers game on Sunday, Mar. 21

Flyers Carter out 3-4 weeks with broken foot

Photo: Yahoo Sports When things can’t get any worse for the Flyers after losing their home-and-home series against Atlanta, they find out the next day that their most elite scorer will miss 3-4 with a non-displaced fracture in his foot. Leighton out 8-10 weeks with ankle sprain

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren revealed today that goaltender Michael Leighton will be sidelined 8 to 10 weeks with a high ankle sprain. That means Brian Boucher will carry the goaltending duties through the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. The earliest Leighton could return to the Flyers is likely the third round of the playoffs and if Boucher can get them that far, he would almost certainly be given the job the remainder of the post-season. Emery to undergo hip surgery, out for season

The Flyers announced today that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery in the near future to repair his right hip and will be out for the remainder of the season, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren. “He is suffering from avascular necrosis and will have a bone graft done to alleviate his hip issues,” said Holmgren. The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Ruch at Duke University Medical Center. The date and time of the procedure will be determined at a future date. Emery, 27, has a 16-11-1 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .905 save percentage, including three shutouts, in 29 appearances with the Flyers this season.

Bartulis day-to-day with groin strain

Statement released this morning by Flyers GM Paul Holmgren: “When Oskars returned from Vancouver he had flu-like symptons, he also complained of some soreness in his groin. He had a MRI on his groin that did not show damage. He remained in Philadelphia for rehab and is listed as day-to-day with a slight groin strain.”
